Star Wall, Costumes, Rehearsals, oh my!!!

With only three Sundays left before opening, here are a few important pieces of information and reminders:

  • Please refer to the schedules located under Shrek Jr. Calendar for what grades, characters and scenes are called for this Today/Tuesday (MS), Wednesday(LS), and Thursday(MS) rehearsals this week.
  • On Thursday of this week, all costume information/items needed for LS and MS will be released.
  • MS Cast, the SHREK MS LINES INSERT document has been uploaded to the blog under the Important show info and links header. Please check to see if your character(s) are affected by these changes
  • MS please check the blog again tomorrow as changes and additions in the schedule are being made to accommodate the needs of all our cast and production team. (Translation: we need more practice time! :)  Mr. Bromberg will be joining us all next week to assist with character development. ALL MS CAST is being asked to a special Wednesday, February 25 rehearsal from 3:30-6:00 to take advantage of this special opportunity.

Rehearsals
As we are in the last “stage” of rehearsals before the show, it is essential that all cast members be present for the duration of their call times.  Please do not bring students late or pick them up early as this will result in them missing essential blocking and/or choreography and may result in them being removed from scenes.

STAR WALL
We will be making a wall of fabulous photos featuring ALL cast and crew!  Please send in this Sunday, February  22nd or the following Sunday, March 1st,  an envelope with your child's name on it,  a 4x6, 5x7, or 8x10 head shot/school picture/close up photo of your child (only your child in the picture please), with their name and grade on the back of the picture and envelope.  I Photos will NOT be returned so please make a color copy or print a copy if you do not wish to give us an original. For copies of photos - photo paper, card stock, or regular paper are all acceptable.

Important Message for MS Cast and Parents regarding rehearsal

Dear MS Cast & Parents:

We are hard at work getting ready to put on a fantastic show! The enthusiasm is great and the songs and verses are coming along very well. However, with three Sundays and a handful of rehearsals until show time, rehearsal attendance is absolutely vital. Although we released the rehearsal information in late Fall and in the production contracts, stating that "Sunday, March 1 & 9, and show week rehearsals are mandatory for all cast and crew". We are now inundated with a plethora of missing weekly rehearsals requests, as well as early out/late in/missing Sunday entirely rehearsal and show week rehearsal requests which causes duress on the children and all involved in the production.

If all of these requests were to be granted, we would never have a full cast rehearsal but we may have a full swamp of grouchy ogres! In fact, with the volume of requests thus far, only 60-70% of children have attended a full rehearsal at any given time. Absent students cause cast consistency problems and make putting on a production extremely challenging. When cast members are absent, other children cannot learn the proper moves or staging. And every time even one child comes in late or leaves early, we have to re-block and re-adjust the entire stage of over 160 actors.

Parents, please understand that a show is a team effort and relies on every child being present for the duration of the time for which their part is called. We only have 3 Sunday rehearsals left to accomplish blocking and the remaining dances, and trying to run the entire show from start to finish before the actual show. There is no time to relearn what is missed or to place those missing actors.

We recognize how busy all of our talented children are with other events and activities but, as stated in the production contract, each child is only allowed a certain number of absences. So please chose which rehearsals or activities your child will miss with this in mind. In addition, having every child stay for the rehearsal’s entirety is vital to each child’s confidence and participation since students not present for the scenes that are blocked, readjusted, or polished will sit out for those scenes and/or curtain call.

We thank you greatly for your understanding and cooperation. The children are working so hard and doing a phenomenal job so far. We can’t wait for you to see you in the Swamp and Duloc in a few short weeks!!!

Thank you,

Ms. Kendrick and the Shrek Jr. Team

LOWER SCHOOL CAST TICKET SEATING SUGGESTIONS

Our Lower School is rocking the Swamp and doing a fantastic job in rehearsals!

We are so excited to open ticket sales tomorrow for what is sure to be the most entertaining show yet.

Many of you have asked where each grade is located and in what aisles.

This year, our lower school cast is in several spaces all over the aisles and main stage.  Here are some suggestions for when the LS cast are in the aisles.

If you are in the audience FACING the stage:

  • M/K uses the aisle on House Left. (This is the first aisle on the seating chart closest to the restrooms/gym door entrance from the hallway into the gym and that divides the side house right section from the center house section.)
  • 2nd grade uses the Center Aisle. (This is the main center aisle of the seating chart).
  • 1st grade uses the aisle on House Right. (This is the third aisle on the seating chart closest to the gym wall and the hill outside/parking lot  and that divides the side section house left from the center house section. ).
  • 3rd,4th, 5th graders are split along each of the aisles in each of their grades' respective numbers  during the show as well as appearing on the main stage.
(House Left, House right  refers to your right or left as the audience sitting in the audience facing the stage).
ALL LS cast members  have the opportunity to appear on the main stage as well.
